Major Cattle-Smuggling Attempt Foiled Near Bihar Border as Police Rescue 39 Animals from DCM Truck

Police in Chandauli’s Iliya area intercepted a DCM truck near the Bihar border and rescued 39 cattle allegedly being smuggled to West Bengal for illegal slaughter. One suspect from Hapur was arrested, and all surviving animals were freed as authorities probe the larger smuggling network.

In a significant breakthrough near the Bihar border, police in the Iliya area of Chandauli district intercepted a DCM truck and uncovered what officials described as a large-scale cattle-smuggling operation. During a routine border checkpoint inspection, officers discovered 39 bovines crammed into the vehicle, 38 of them alive and one found dead at the scene.

According to police, the truck was allegedly transporting the animals toward West Bengal, where they were believed to be destined for illegal slaughter. The authorities immediately detained the driver, identified as Narendra, a resident of Hapur, who is suspected to be involved in an organised smuggling network. He was taken into custody and later remanded to judicial jail following preliminary questioning.

Police said the rescue operation was swift, and all surviving cattle were safely removed from the vehicle and handed over to designated officials for proper care. Investigators are now examining the broader reach of the smuggling route, which is known to operate through stretches of eastern Uttar Pradesh toward bordering regions.

The incident marks a notable success for local law enforcement, who have intensified surveillance in the border belt to curb the movement of illegal cattle consignments. Officers stated that enhanced patrolling and targeted checks have been instrumental in disrupting such activities, particularly along vulnerable transit corridors.

As inquiries continue, authorities say the case underscores the persistence of cattle-smuggling rackets in the region and highlights the importance of heightened vigilance at interstate checkpoints. Police have indicated that further arrests may follow as the network behind the seized consignment comes under closer scrutiny.
